A short stop to dip our toes in the Atlantic ocean and Mediterranean sea, in 30 seconds!

Yes, it is possible to swim in the Atlantic oceand and the Mediterranean sea within about 30 seconds if you are quick! Where? In Tarifa, south west Spain, where the two seas meet on the southernmost tip of Europe.

Tarifa is a small town located on the southern coast of Spain in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia. Known for its stunning beaches, vibrant windsurfing and kitesurfing scene, and its position as the southernmost point of continental Europe. Parking was extremely hard to find, we got lucky down by the beach but that was after half an hour of frustration and driving around in circles.

Punta De Tarifa, also known as Isla de Las Palomas, is the southernmost point of the town and of mainland Europe. It marks the boundary between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Disappointingly, a locked gate blocks the path to this point, so there is no way to actually stand on the southernmost point of Europe. This we think is because the island is a former, a possibly still used as a fortification. It is said that there are guided tours to the island but we found very little information about this.

We ended up wading in the two oceans in around 60 seconds, walking around an abandoned house with fortifications, and Tanja got attacked by a moody seagull.
