A very cool and hidden short walk gem in Tasmania is the Weldborough Pass Rainforest Walk. This loop trail of just around 5 minutes on the Tasman Highway between St Helens and Derby is worth the short stop. Parking is easy just off the side of the road, and the entry to the trail is clearly marked.

The path winds through lush ancient rainforest with myrtle beech, towering tree ferns and smaller ferns and trees with hanging moss. It is really an enchanted walk. Storyboards (slightly faded) tells the story of the forest and land through the character «Grandma Myrtle» weaving tales of continental drift and fern evolution.

The whole walk shows the clear connection with New Zealands giant ferns and landmass, and for us it was a very New Zealand kind of walk.
Should you drive this part of the Tasman Highway, we highly recommend the short break and walk on a stunning stretch of road.
