Random Aotearoa New Zealand: Dogs, Coffee & Glorious Chaos

On the road, we don’t just travel—we actively collect weird. The kind of weird you can’t plan, can’t Google, and definitely can’t explain later without sounding like you made it up.

Excuse me Sir, would you like to hear about our Lord Voldemort?

This is a completely unscientific, mildly unhinged collection of things we’ve encountered: dogs (so many dogs), great coffee joints, great coffee joints with dogs (the superior category), cars with deeply questionable registration plates, and cars containing dogs who look like they’re the ones actually driving.

There are also moments that don’t fit into any category whatsoever—just pure, spontaneous “what is happening right now?” energy. You know, the kind that makes you stop, stare, laugh, and then question reality for a solid minute.

Anyway, this is that. A tribute to the randomness, the chaos, and the absolute brilliance of the unexpected. Because let’s be honest—travel isn’t just about the views. It’s about the dog in sunglasses sitting in a ute outside a coffee shop with a name you can’t pronounce.
