Dinner at Lobster Shack Tasmania

We are both huge fans of crabs, shrimps and lobster, so we had to stop by the Lobster Shack in Bicheno when we roadtripped around Tasmania.

The Tasmanian lobster has a reputation of being the finest crustacean to eat and it was high on our wish list before we headed to Australia.

The Lobster Shack Tasmania in Bicheno was a natural stop on our way from Freycinet up to Bay of Fires.

The whole experience was a bit underwhelming, a kind of fast food setup, order by the counter and wait for your dongle to dingle, and pick up your food. There is plenty of space outdoors with grear views but it comes with an armada of hungry and aggressive seagulls watching your every move and swooping in if you do not pay attention to your meal.

We ordered two halves of lobster, one plain and one with butter, they came with plenty of fries and non-complimentary dipping sauces. Both lobsters were cold, bordering on freshly thawed and we were utterly disappointed. When you have such fresh produce straight from the sea, treat it with respect and dignity, not as a fast food item from Maccas. In no way was this experience worth the almost 200 AUD we paid.

Calmed our slightly angry fishermans souls with a stroll just up the road by the blowholes.

  1. A shame about the meal! You’ll have to come to the lobster shack in Cervantes about 2 hours north of Perth, that’s where the best is!!!
