Part 11 of the travel diaries from 1997 shows that we try to learn how to surf in Byron Bay, who knew it would be that hard?

Part 10 of the vintage backpacking adventure takes us off the beaten path to a dusty outback ranch and back to the coast to visit the stunning Frasier Island.

Part 9 of our vintage 1997 travel diaries is spent in Airlie Beach and snorkelling the awesome Great Barrier Reef by the Whitsunday Islands.

Part 8 of the around the world 1997 travel diaries continues down the eastern coast of Australia to Magnetic Island where we see koalas in the wild and get to drive a Moke!

Part 7 of our travel diaries from 1997 takes place north of Cairns in the amazing Daintree rainforest and Cape Tribulation area.

Pat 6 of the travel diaries from 1997 takes place with the epic backdrop of Ayers Rock and the Olgas in the mighty red centre of Australia. Ørjan climbs Ayers Rock in the dark and Tanja gets blisters.

Part 5 of our around the world 1997 travel diaries, we land in Darwin, Australia. Tanja is still sick, and we book a trip by bus down the Stuart Highway to Alice Springs. We spend out first night in a swag and see our first marsupial.

Part 4 of our around the world 1997 travel diaries sees us back at Sengigi Beach in Lombok, and Tanja falling ill. We decide for a quick escape to Australia.

Part 3 of our around the world 1997 travel diaries. Everybody said we HAD to see the Gilli Island, sadly we were bitterly disappointed by the filth and the blatant disregard for the coral reefs.

Part 2 of our around the world 1997 travel diaries will see us in Bali and mainly settling down for a little while in Lombok, and it finally feels a bit like a holiday!

Part 1 of our around the world 1997 travel diaries, culture shock and jetlag in Bangkok.

This is the prologue for our Around The World 1997 diaries project. We had out first big real taste of the world in 1997 when we embarked on our first around the world trip as a couple. We both wrote diaries, and took photos. We had great fun transcribing diaries and digitizing old photos. Hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane with us.

6 years ago 1500 people were at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris, ready to have a rocking good time with the band Eagles of Death Metal. 90 people never came home. The venue was attacked by coward sub human terrorists, killing and maiming innocent concert goers, who were just there to have a good time. To attend the memorial concert was heavier than the black clouds on a rainy day but also more joyful than a sunny day in spring. Let the music play!
