Part 19 of our around the world travel diaries ends our adventure in Fiji, we find a nice beach, play cards and have a near death experience on a ferry in a cyclone!

The penultimate post from our travel diaries from 1997. We arrived in Tonga with high hopes but our plans did not work out like we had hoped. And home sickness starts to set in.

Last entries from New Zealand in part 17 of our around the world 1997 travel diaries. We go from Auckland to the tropical north and see very few dolphins, cape Reinga and magnificent Kauri trees.

The best day ever! Part 16 of our around the world travel diaries from 1997 is spent underground in Waitomos wast underground cave network. It is Tanjas birthday, and she gets to spend the whole day in a wetsuit underground!

Part 15 of our travel diaries from 1997, we get to the North Island of New Zealand and we visit a thermal park.

Part 14 of the now slightly epic travel diaries from 1997 takes place on New Zealands south island, we do not have the money to bungee jump, and miss out on swimming with dolphins.

Last days and chapter 12 of our travel diaries from 1997 we spend in Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

Part 11 of the travel diaries from 1997 shows that we try to learn how to surf in Byron Bay, who knew it would be that hard?

Part 9 of our vintage 1997 travel diaries is spent in Airlie Beach and snorkelling the awesome Great Barrier Reef by the Whitsunday Islands.

Part 8 of the around the world 1997 travel diaries continues down the eastern coast of Australia to Magnetic Island where we see koalas in the wild and get to drive a Moke!

Part 4 of our around the world 1997 travel diaries sees us back at Sengigi Beach in Lombok, and Tanja falling ill. We decide for a quick escape to Australia.

Part 3 of our around the world 1997 travel diaries. Everybody said we HAD to see the Gilli Island, sadly we were bitterly disappointed by the filth and the blatant disregard for the coral reefs.

Part 2 of our around the world 1997 travel diaries will see us in Bali and mainly settling down for a little while in Lombok, and it finally feels a bit like a holiday!

Part 1 of our around the world 1997 travel diaries, culture shock and jetlag in Bangkok.

This is the prologue for our Around The World 1997 diaries project. We had out first big real taste of the world in 1997 when we embarked on our first around the world trip as a couple. We both wrote diaries, and took photos. We had great fun transcribing diaries and digitizing old photos. Hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane with us.
